Pains and needles: acupuncture placebo?

Hello

Below is a link to an interesting article in the media that once again talks about acupuncture as a placebo.

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network/2017/sep/07/pains-and-needles-brain-scans-point-to-hidden-effects-of-acupuncture

Embedded in the article in a link to Prof Colquhoun's perspective that is worth a read.

As with everything in life, there is always 2 sides to each story. I try to remind myself that no matter how thinly we slice the cake, there will always be 2 sides and "my" slice of the cake is not the whole cake.

This raises many deeper questions for me particularly about belief systems and how what we believe shapes our perception of reality. So can we truly see the world as it is or do we only see the world as we are? And is there such a thing as absolute truth?

And on a more practical level - what would a real-world clinically meaningful study design, that could capture all these phenomena, actually look like?

So what do you believe about acupuncture?

I look forward to hearing from you.
