Course Aim:

To educate yoga teachers and therapists on scoliosis and how the system of yoga can be applied to help scoliosis.

 

Course short description:
A 1-day continuous professional development (CPD) course for:

  • Qualified yoga teachers and therapists (of any style/training/school/level of experience)
  • Qualified yoga teachers and therapists with a diagnosed scoliosis themselves
  • Qualified yoga teachers and therapists who work with clients with possible scoliosis
  • Advanced yoga practitioners/students who want a deep dive into scoliosis
  • Accreditation by the IAYT pending

Sudhir Daya BSc (Hons) MSc PgCert PgDip ACC MCSP

Petra Mitidieri PhD, C-IAYT(certified yoga therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists)

 

Course tutor bio:

Sudhir is a chartered physiotherapist (MCSP) specialising in educating mind-bodywork practitioners and teachers on the science of movement. Sudhir has explored various movements styles including yoga, south Asian dance, pilates, circus, gymnastics, martial arts and most recently rollerblading! 

 

Petra has been teaching yoga since 2000. Having been diagnosed with scoliosis at 14, she has always been interested in how to manage it with bodywork. That has led her to pursue yoga therapy, which is now the main focus of her teaching. She is a certified yoga therapist by the world’s leading organisation in the field, International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Course learning outcomes:
By the end of the course the participant will:
•    Have an intermediate understanding of scoliosis (pathogenesis, biomechanics)
•    Be able to determine if scoliosis is potentially present in a client on a basic level
•    Be able to signpost/refer to an appropriate healthcare professional
•    Apply the system of yoga to scoliosis (asana and pranayama)
•    Safely modify and adapt yoga to a practitioner with a diagnosed scoliosis

 

Course requirements:
•    A qualified yoga teacher (any school/training/style/level of experience)
•    A qualified yoga therapist
•    An advanced student who wishes to deepen their knowledge and practice
•    Valid insurance in place
•    Adhere to government COVID guidance

 

Ratio of theory to practical:
•    60% practical
•    40% theory

 

Number of CPD hours it will account for:
    •    7 hours
